The Best Feminist Halloween Costumes

It’s time to start planning your Halloween costume, and it’s a great moment to take advantage of the time to dress up to flaunt your feminism in your costume. But what would be the best feminist costumes? I’m here to tell you what some of the greatest costumes are.

Notorious RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsburg)

The Supreme Lady (terrible pun, I know), Ruth Bader Ginsburg has a style all her own, both in the courtroom and out. Just get some iconic round glasses and maybe a gavel to ground the look.

Suffragette

The leading ladies who fought for women’s rights, particularly the right to vote, are an excellent way to show off you feminism for Halloween this year.

Orange is the New Black Inmate

OITNB is full of so many great female characters that are awesome feminists as well. You can pick your favorite and embody their greatness all night long.

lurknomoar:jumpingjacktrash: rainbowbarnacle: ceruleancynic: Furiosa, Baltimore Comic Con 2015 A couple of pics. I’m really, really happy with the first shot: I got unlucky. The amazing gun belonged to the very nice dude in the 8th shot who let me hold it and then kindly (and without prompting!) suggested that we have a go at the don’t breathe bit, which was awesome except I’m on his wrong side. Oh well.  Good times, and I know what needs to be fixed/updated/upgraded in the outfit. Might go back tomorrow for a bit.  *SCREECHING* #WOW IT SURE IS NICE THE ACTUAL FURIOSA GOT TO VISIT THE CON ikr?? HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THIS.

Furiosa

Strong, intelligent, skillful, Furiosa is the kick ass lady of the hit film Mad Max: Fury Road, which was well-acclaimed for its feminist plot lines.  If you want to rock an action hero vibe, this is an excellent choice.

Agent Carter

The leading lady of her own Marvel TV series, Agent Carter is a great choice if you especially if you want an older era vibe.

Your Fave 90’s Lady

So much of the 90’s was focused on feminism, and a large amount of awesome characters came out of that era. There’s Daria and Jane (above), Charlotte Pickles, Clarissa Explains It All, Buffy, Xena, Dana Scully, and sooooo many more.

  3. Love these ideas, especially the 90’s ones! Daria was one of my favorite shows growing up, all I need is a Jane and I could use that! Lol 🙂

Oh, these are SO phenomenal! What a refreshing counterpoint to the usual slough of “Sexy _____” we’re so used to being inundated with this time of year. (Not that there’s *anything* wrong with being sexy anything – just that it’s so nice to have options!)

I particularly love that Agent Carter ensemble.

I love these!! Especially the Notorious RBG! LOL!! My daughter dressed as a suffragette for decades day her senior year of high school. Much better than the stereotypical 80’s girl.

  7. I’ve always wanted to dress up as Rosie the Riveter for Halloween, but some of these other costumes are tempting as well, especially Agent Carter and Furiosa! I even think I can pull something out of my closet for some of these and not spend a dime on a costume!
