Earlier I discussed common misconceptions about college, but one topic I didn’t go into was spring break. The idea of spring break in college is Cancun, binge drinking, bikinis and sex. However, not everyone is a fan of this idea and has no intention of pursuing it (like myself). But if you’re not going to go crazy, what can you do for spring break?
Many colleges offer a service called Alternative Spring Break, which gives students the opportunity to help the local community by doing various projects like cleaning parks and working in a food bank. Major non-profits will also provide the same service, like United Way. It’s a good way to give back to the community where you live and give you something to do over break.
I always visit my family when I get the chance because I don’t have the luxury of seeing them on a daily basis. It’s a nice way to relax and enjoy time with your loved ones. Also, they’ll take care of you so you won’t have to do everything yourself. That’s always a nice perk.
Host Your Own Gathering
You’re probably not the only one of your friends who won’t be partying it up all week, so why not have a small gathering yourself? Watch movies, play games, have dinner, or whatever else you enjoy doing. You don’t have to get mindlessly drunk to have a good time with your friends.
Having a whole week off is a the perfect time to stop and recharge. Do you have a list of things that you want to do, but you wait until you “have the time”? Well, you now have the time! Catch up on the TV shows you missed, read a new book or update your playlist since you’ve heard Blank Space at least a million times. Take the week to yourself.
