Dear Me

Many female Youtubers have taken to their channels to create video letters to their younger selves, and thus inspiring their younger viewers as well. Their inspiring words have inspired me to write my own letter to my younger self.

Dear Me,

How’s it going younger me? I know life is pretty complicated when you’re a preteen/teenager.Here is my advice for you:

Don’t be afraid to be a leader. People will be intimidated, but you’re strong and have the skills so use them.

Not every person will like you, and you won’t like everyone either, so don’t make it your mission to be everyone’s best friend.

Your parents just want the best for you, especially your dad, so cut them some slack.

You will try and do everything, but know that it is impossible to do everything on your own.

Never be afraid to ask for what you want, because if they say no, life will not end.

Make mistakes! You will learn more from your mistakes than by doing nothing.

You hate your hometown now, but it’s a lot better than you think it is. Trust me, once you move away you will miss it.

Boys are complicated, and you will waste a lot of energy on them.

Your best friend is the best person ever, and will be the one person you keep after these teenage years, so love her like a sister.

Cherish those fun nights and good memories with your friends, because you will never regret those decisions.

You are unique! You are different! You don’t fit into a box or a label, so own that!

People will tell you that you won’t succeed. Prove them wrong.

But the honest truth is that 99.9% of all the drama and stuff that you think is so important right now, is actually not important at all. But here is the other honest truth, don’t change anything you’re doing, because if you don’t get a huge crush on that one boy or fight with that one friend, you wouldn’t be where you are today, and I think you did a good job. So just do you, because you is the best.

Lots of Love, Your Future Self

I wish I could have told myself all of this 15 years ago… I would have lived my life much happier and been a better person for it now. Thank you for these little reminders 🙂

That “99.9% of all the drama and stuff that you think is so important right now, is actually not important at all” part is true! I experience it. Thanks for posting this.
