With the new year on the horizon, it’s common for everyone to reflect on the bests, and even worsts, or the year. While I am not going to rank different events against each other into a best list, I will share my favorite moments of 2014.
Taylor Swift Switched to Pop
She put down the guitar and picked up a boombox. Instead of teardrops on her guitar, she’s shaking it off. Taylor Swift made a momentous switch into the pop world, and she rocked it. With over 1 million copies of 1989 sold, she made a powerful, and fashionable, entrance into pop. You can read more about Taylor Swift’s awesomeness here.
PTX. Vol. 3 was Released
Pentatonix is an acapella sensation. They are paving their own way, and as an avid fan since The Sing-Off, I’ve been paying close attention. This particular album stands out from previous albums because it takes a different turn, being a little more eclectic and unique with a different tone than the other albums. Plus there is a song entirely in French! This was a highlight to my year, and I am excited to see what they have up their sleeves for the next album.
Call Your Girlfriend Podcast
CYG is a podcast brilliantly hosted by Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow, a pair of long distance besties who share their wonderful wisdom, thoughts and opinions on various topics, from the importance of voting to period cramps, anti-rape movements to Beyonce, and empowertising to the squatty potty. It’s pretty much a rainbow of magical discussions that can make you angry, laugh out loud, and thoughtful all in a single podcast. You can listen to all podcasts here.
How To Get Away With Murder
The pilot is a bit hard to follow, but the drama and the stories of all the characters will pull you in as you get puzzle pieces to put the plot together. Viola Davis as Annalise Keating is stunning with her complexities and never-ending plot twisting moments. If you need a little suspense and dramatic entertainment, go watch HTGAWM.
This magnificent man graced the music world this year with his beautiful album “In The Lonely Hour”. Sam Smith is a common repeat in my playlist and will continue to be playing into the new year.
Lady Parts is a Tumblr blog that takes casting call descriptions for women that are highly sexist and put them up for the world to see. In their own words, they are “Calling bullshit, cultivating selectivity, and fostering discussion—because”female, non-speaking” won’t work for us.” These lovely ladies are trying to make a change to how women are represented in media, and I am eating it up! You can check out their site here.
Mockingjay Part 1 Release
I had the privilege of seeing Mockingjay Part 1 two days before it officially released in the U.S. And it was epic. not only was it a great movie, but it was a good representation of the book. It also had stellar acting not only from JLaw, but also Elizabeth Banks and Julianne Moore. It also had the highest box office weekend of 2014, so I’m not the only one paying good money to hear Katniss fire her arrows at planes, and not to mention sing surprisingly well.
And last but not least, I started this blog this year. And I am looking forward to many more years ahead!
These were my favorite moments of 2014, but I more than likely forgot something. Let me know what your favorite’s were!
