It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….
With Halloween just barely passed, it is now time to start thinking about the holidays!! Now, I know it is blasphemous to speak of the holidays before the kickstarter Black Friday, but I believe that it is perfectly okay to already be excited about Christmas/ Kwanza/ Hanukkah/ any other holiday you might celebrate. And here are the 4 reasons for why you should be shamelessly excited for the holidays!
1. The Music is Amazing
Back in my ballet days, I was listening to Nutcracker music from July through December. I love the music of the holidays because it brings back good memories and warm feeling. Even when some random car commercial is playing Russian Trepak, I still enjoy it because it reminds me of Christmas traditions. Christmas Carols are also a great part of the holidays, especially when people actually go out caroling (which my friends used to do when I was in high school). And how can you not get a little spark of joy from hearing the Dreidel Song? Holiday music is definitely a way to bring in the excitement!
2. The Food is Delicious
A plump turkey, potatoes, gravy, bread, desserts for days and a cup of hot chocolate are somethings worth getting excited over. The holidays have feasts of delicious dishes that you can’t not look forward to! My family likes to mix it up by trying different poultry as our main dish, whether it be turkey, duck, goose or game hen. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And the desserts? Cookies and cakes everywhere! And there is nothing quite as nice as sitting at home on a cold winter day and drinking some hot chocolate. The holidays mean wonderful food you don’t get any time else.
3. The Culture is Festive
There is an aura in the air when the holidays come up. It’s chill outside but everyone is full of warmth. It is about being thankful and giving to others, which should be expressed all year, but comes more naturally during December. I am excited for this feeling to be everywhere for the holidays, and you should be too!
4. The Time is Well Spent
The holidays are synonymous with family time. And, if you are anything like me, being able to spend quality time with family is super important and exciting. Being away from family is hard, but the holidays bring everyone together to celebrate the end of a year and the start of a new one. My family spends Christmas playing games and eating the family dinner all together. That time is never wasted because I am with people I love, and that makes me excited.
